This is my story…

I am still receiving treatments and will be doing so for the foreseeable future. It will be interesting to see what other improvements occur in the future and even if not, the fact that my headache is basically gone is monumental. Did I mention that my 13 plus years headache is gone!!!!! Amen!

A  patient recently came into my office and shared a story that I thought needed to be shared with the community so that others may be able to find help so that they might be able to stop suffering needlessly.  Thank you to Randy for sharing and thank you to our team for participating in his journey, especially Jenni, our HBOT tech.

1 Peter 1: 6-7 (NLT): There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. 7 These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.

This is my story…..

My name is Randy and I have been suffering with Chronic Lyme Disease for about 15 years. During this time, I have treated with various doctors who were not addressing the Lyme Disease, but the effects of it. These included various neurologists, rheumatologists and alike. (Please note that I do also have various forms of arthritis and had this long before the onset of Lyme Disease.) Most troublesome was a constant, never-ceasing headache which at times was unbearable.

In the fall of 2019 I attended a Lyme Support Group in Mechanicsburg PA. At this support group I was also introduced to Dr Shannon D Smith of Turnpaugh Health & Wellness Center. I learned that others who were attending the support meeting had received treatment at this facility and were showing signs of improvement. This was the first time that I had met a doctor that recognized Chronic Lyme Disease and did not blame my ongoing symptoms as something else.

That same week I contacted Turnpaugh and scheduled an appointment. With the history I have had with doctors/treatments I was very skeptical that this was going to work but this was my last resort – I had to see if Turnpaugh would be any different – I had lost all hope in anything ever working or providing any relief. I was very desperate; I truly felt that I did not know how long I would last as my condition was deteriorating more rapidly.

My greatest complaint was the never ending headache; just imagine having it constantly, every day, every night, every single moment. Sometimes my head would be pounding so badly that I thought my head would explode. So my greatest hope was to, if not completely alleviate my headache, at least lessen the severity of it. I felt if I could at least get rid of my headache I could live and deal with the other issues.

Upon my first visit at Turnpaugh I was having a bad day, meaning I was in a lot of pain and having trouble walking. The waiting room was full and after finally finding a seat I sat down next to a man who said to me “I can tell that you are in a lot of pain and you are in the right place.”

I met with Dr. Smith and others to discuss my overall health and issues. I told Dr. Smith “If I can just get rid of this headache, I can deal with everything else.”

So I started the treatment plan which included dietary changes and numerous vitamins and supplements. After a few weeks Dr. Smith recommended IV treatment and the hyperbaric chamber.

On December 19, 2019 I had the first treatment in the Hyperbaric chamber. When I first went in I was nervous because you must sign a waiver which describes way too many things that can go wrong. After signing the waiver I quickly said a prayer that God would keep me safe and that this would relieve my headache, if even just a little bit.

The best way I can describe being in the chamber is the feeling of being in an airplane and it was surprisingly comfortable. About half way through I fell asleep – not just asleep but a deep, restful, peaceful sleep that I have not experienced in too many years to remember. About three quarters of the way through I woke up and I immediately noticed that my head was not pounding, I thought I was dreaming, I looked around and realized I was in the chamber. Within moments of this, the session ended and I was exiting the chamber. As I was doing so I was dumbstruck! I could not believe that my headache was gone after over 13 years of the constant pain and pounding it was gone!!

The nurse was looking at me and I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want my headache to come back. Finally I exclaimed “I don’t have a headache!!” She said “Do you feel ok?” I said “Yes, I don’t have a headache; I don’t know what to do!” Upon checking out I told everyone that my headache was gone and that they must tell Dr. Smith.

When I left the office and got in my car I was so overcome with emotion that I just sat there and wept; I was so amazed that finally something had taken away my headache.

Since then my headache has not been constant and generally I do not have it but found there are certain triggers that can bring it back like continuous loud noises and being upset. So obviously I try to avoid such situations.

Additionally, when I first went to Turnpaugh I was using a cane all the time while walking. I can now walk without it but keep it handy for when I know that I need to walk greater distances.

Another symptom that has greatly improved is that my right pinky finger is straight. Previously, the tip of my pinky finger was curling and had been overlapping my ring finger and going into the webbing in between the two fingers.

I am still receiving treatments and will be doing so for the foreseeable future. It will be interesting to see what other improvements occur in the future and even if not, the fact that my headache is basically gone is monumental. Did I mention that my 13 plus years headache is gone!!!!! Amen!

Turnpaugh is awesome! Everyone greets you by name, they treat you like family.

So I will leave you with this sinner, keep your head high the river is just ahead and Turnpaugh is just around the corner.
