Howdy readers. I know it’s been a bit since my last article… (December & January went QUICK didn’t they?)… but I bested my desire to be lazy & got out to do a hike. Today’s article is on Pole Steeple at Pine Grove Furnace State Park. It’s a moderate hike if you don’t make a certain decision I will point out here in a bit…
THE TRAIL
This is about what you can expect for the most part minus the snow if you choose a more toasty time of the year to do the hike…
WHERE YOU CHOOSE HAPPINESS OR DESPAIR
…Unless you go the “STEEP” way. I have done both. “STEEP” doesn’t really account for the fact that you have to go up a crevice in rocks to reach the top. Not simple. Not advised for most. That sign wasn’t there last time I did this hike… I went the steep way that time.
THE STEEP WAY
The picture doesn’t do it justice.

THE OBVIOUS OVERLOOK
You get a pretty good view at the top. I might have tripped over a tree root right before reaching said overlook… I probably looked ridiculous trying not to fall… Feel free to imagine it & laugh.
THE LESS OBVIOUS OVERLOOK
If you venture off to the clearing on the side, there is another small opening with some rocks sticking out. I contemplated the odds of getting severely injured if I tried to get to the end of that & decided it was a bad idea…
ME AFTER I DID IT ANYWAYS
I did it anyway. This was the photo when I finally gave up on trying to use a timer on my camera on slippery rocks without falling to my death… It’s a bit blurry but a little editing made it passable.
SIDENOTE…
CURLY TREE!
You have to admit… That tree deserved a mention.THANK YOU FOR READING
