I was hiking today & I thought to myself, “WHAT IF… I were to share this with our patients?”… “I wonder if they would like that?”. So I sent Heather Turnpaugh a text & asked her if I could do a little article occasionally on my hikes so that you all could share in the experience! She agreed & thus this article was born. Welcome to the 1st ever “Destinations With Dan”! I hope you enjoy it. We are starting with a place I have been many times from childhood to now. Little Buffalo State Park. It’s a Beautiful place & an easy hike (for the most part). Here are some pictures from today’s adventure. Starting with…
THE LAKE:
Kind of the primary attraction here. Beautiful. Peaceful. You can fish, boat, boat AND fish, or just be like me & take in the view. Moving on…
THE TRAIL (or at least my favorite 1… There are many):
Fisherman’s Trail. Most of the trails at Little Buffalo are pretty easy & flat. This trail follows along the lake. Simple. Easy. Short. Connects the 2 sides of the park. I take this 1 the most & my super secret, off the main trail sit & think spot is along here… No… I didn’t take a picture of it… then it wouldn’t be super secret.
THE DOCK (1 of them):
If I visit Little Buffalo; I will almost definitely stand here at least for a little bit; looking out over the lake. I imagine that to bystanders I look like I am contemplating the deep mysteries of the world… Am I? Probably not.
THE TRAIN CAR:
A caboose to be specific. Goes at the verrrrrry end of the train. Didn’t happen this past Christmas because of repairs but most years they do a little Christmas setup inside for people to go see. The rest of the year? Locked… Sorry.
P.S. My dad said I should have mentioned that before the man-made lake a railroad track went through the park… There DAD… You happy? GOOD… Next picture.
CLAY’S BRIDGE:
This is a covered bridge along 1 of the trails away from the lake. Only 209 of these in PA (according to Google so take that number lightly). I think they are pretty cool. Who needs UNCOVERED bridges anyways?
THE INSIDE OF THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED BRIDGE:
Just in case you were curious…
SHOAFF’S MILL:
It’s a water mill. Sometimes you can go inside. Why can’t I think of anything fun to say about this? It’s cool though right? Ya it is…
THE GARDEN:
Not a fan of the *AHEM*… “hiking” part of hiking but you do like fresh air, maybe watching some birds, & benches? Whether hiking is hard for you or maybe you just don’t feel like it; this is for you. This is very close to 1 of the parking areas (Only would have had to move the camera a little to the right) & just a nice relaxing spot. Admittedly, I do not use this much but maybe you would? Who knows! You should give it a try. Fair warning. You have to walk up a short, small hill.
1 OF THE STATIONS ON THE EXERCISE TRAIL:
(A bug flew in my mouth right before taking this picture)
Are you an adrenaline addict or just want to mix up your workout? Here you go. The exercise trail has multiple little spots like these. Some have something like this. Some just have a sign with an instruction. What you do is you run the trail, stopping at each station to do the stated exercise… I walked it… & NO… I did not do the exercises…
ME… DAN… ALSO KNOWN AS “THE GUY WHO DID THE HIKE”
I hope you enjoyed the article & if you think this is for you then get up; get out & give Little Buffalo a try! Be safe though. Stay hydrated; don’t try to do more than you can safely handle; wear appropriate shoes; & (admittedly I did not do these next 2) it probably wouldn’t hurt to use something to prevent sunburn & also something to prevent bug bites… I did get a little sunburnt.
