5 Simple Gluten-free and Dairy Free Snack Ideas
By Caitlyn Kambouroglos, Registered Dietitian
One of the most common questions I get asked is, “What’s a good snack?” It can be helpful to understand what foods to pair together to build a balanced snack that leaves you feeling satisfied until your next meal. Prioritizing healthy protein and fat sources alongside a carbohydrate source can help to balance your blood sugar and promote satiety. The following are examples of snacks you can take on-the-go, pack for work or enjoy at home.
- CHOMPs free range turkey or grass-fed beef stick paired with an apple and 1 Tbsp. almond butter
- Protein smoothie made with 8 oz. unsweetened almond milk, 1 cup spinach, ½ cup frozen berries, 1 scoop of your favorite plant-based protein powder (about 15-20g protein) and ¼ -½ an avocado
- 2 hard-boiled eggs paired with bell pepper slices, carrots, celery and ¼ cup guacamole
- 3 slices of organic, nitrate and nitrite free turkey paired with a serving size of Mary’s Gone crackers and ¼ cup hummus
- Chicken salad made with 2 tsp. avocado mayo paired with a serving of Simple Mills crackers and celery sticks
